Zydeco by Birth: the story of the legendary Carriere/Carrier family of South Louisiana

Documentary Film

Project Image: Please upload an image CROPPED TO 500px WIDE and saved at smaller than 1MB.

Zydeco by Birth will illustrate the evolution of Zydeco music and the history of Black French Creoles through the story of the Carriere/Carrier family. The Carrier family is a dynasty of Zydeco musicians whose story provides a window into the Louisiana Creole experience. The family story demonstrates how Black French Creole sharecroppers in the early 20th century created a unique Louisiana musical genre that continues to inspire musicians and dancers across the globe. Spanning over a century of oral and recorded tradition, living members of the Carrier family still perform and record (with notable Grammy success).
